Barn Quilts

Barn Quilts

Americana Folk Art that Celebrates Womens Contribution to Agriculture.

At Crooked Lane Farm, our barn quilts are more than just colorful decorations—they’re a celebration of heritage, creativity, and community. Each quilt pattern tells a story, reflecting the traditions of rural life and the artistry passed down through generations. We display them to honor the history of quilting as both a practical craft and a form of personal expression, while also celebrating the contributions women have made to our rural history. They add beauty and character to our farmstead. Barn quilts invite visitors to slow down, look closely, and feel connected to the land and the people who have cared for it, making them a meaningful symbol of who we are and what we value.

Barn quilts are painted, bold public art that are geometric patterns, or quilt squares, painted in bright, solid colors on wood. They are a representation of women’s domestic contribution to farming and our rural culture. They are hung on barns, houses, and fences as well as inside homes and public places.  Barn Quilts are found throughout North America.

We offer classes and demonstrations about barn quilts at Crooked Lane Farm.  Folks enjoy coming out to learn the history, paint, and complete a barn quilt for their own home or yard.
